I think these were one piece wheels similar to the '95's except that they
had a full center cap that covered the lug bolts while the '95's had exposed
lug bolts.  As far as I know, only the '91-'92 GTI 16V had two piece wheels,
and they bent like they were made out of solder.

I think (again) that this was the first year that they were body color.
