Check out NHTSA at (http://www-nsa.nhtsa.dot.gov/squery.shtml).

You can look up your VW year and they will list all the bulletins issued for
your car.
I believe your stick can be adjusted somewhat, check with your dealer
someone may 
have man handled it a little to much.
