OK, is this just another case of an idiotic dealer who only remembers
the days when synthetic lubricants were new and not very good? I can't
decide what to do. The guy's name is Carl, and the dealership is
Southern VW in Waldorf MD. Maybe I should ask other area dealers'
 service departments?

FWIW, I had major transmission work done on my 95GLX back in May 1996 9k
miles on it !! Cracked 2nd gear synchro etc etc. When I got my car back the
transmission was very stiff and the dealer told me that it would take a month
or two to soften up. Ok I say. Six months came and went and the problem was
if anything, getting worse with the advent of the cooler ovrnight temps here
in NY. At times I had to totally skip 2nd gear because it just wouldn't go
in. I took it back to the freaking dealer and they ended up putting
synthetic oil in it! I guess my point is that you may want to check with
other dealers or VWoA itself regarding that warranty issue. I don't know if
what Carl says is true but if it is my dealer better hope my transmission
doesn't conk out on me.
