Re: A3 Questions

before you try the friction tape method that may or may not work, look
to see how you door meet the car body when closed. Is it straight
with the body at the roof line and the lower edge? Is it flush with
the rear quarter panel or is it sticking out. More likely is that the
door is not adjusted correctly. This can simply be fixed by adjusting
the catch on the body part of the car, where the door holds on to stay
shut. This plate with the catch "pin" can be adjusted in and out, up
and down by loosening the two bolts with a T40 Torx driver, adjusting
and then re-tightening. Good luck, I had the same problem with my
'95Jetta and this proved to be the fix!

I have a couple of questions about my '95 Golf Sport that I haven't been
able to have answered adequately. I gave the newsgroup one more try,
and didn't get much response. Maybe Don can help while he is still
patiently active (or anyone). Sorry about the non-Jetta nature, but the
problems seem to be common to all A3's. Here goes:

Question 1 concerns the airbag indicator light. My car has the
indicator to the far left of the dash. When new, it would be
illuminated for a few seconds when the ignition was turned on then go
out. Since I removed that piece of the dash, to install a new headlight
switch, the light has been malfunctioning. Now it comes on, and stays
on for about two minutes before going out. A few people have responded
that they have had this problem which the dealer has fixed, but they
didn't know how. Does anyone know how a dealer would fix this problem?
Is it something I can do?

Question 2 concerns the infamous door squeek. I have one in my
passenger side door. I would like to try installing the so called
"friction tape" or "teflon tape" or whatever it is that the dealers use,
but I have never had an adequate description so that I might purchase
some. Is this something only the dealers have? If so, how much is it?
If not, is it some generic tape that can be purchased at a hardware
store? What kind?

Thanks for all your help. I don't really have a dealer that I go to,
and am basically a free agent. The warranty is long gone, so any help I
get is much appreciated.
