Re: "Accessory" engine belt replacement?
Item Subject: "Accessory" engine belt replacement?
Yep, I think it's time, I believe the standard interval is 60K.
aparently it is pretty easy. The part can be had from the dealer
(expensive) or try Timmons VW, or New Dimensions for a better price,
~$50 I think, then remove your airbox for better access, insert the
correct metric bolt in to the belt tensioner to relieve the belt
tension (5x100 I think) then remove belt and replace with new one in
the same position. I have never done this my self though so you
probably want to get a second opinion or check a Bently manual.

I used to call it the "fan belt", but I don't know what to call these new
all-in-one grooved jobs...
Anyway, my 95 VR6 is approaching 70K and the belt driving the alternator,
etc. is starting to look a bit cracked. What is the recommended change
interval, how much is the belt, and how difficult is it to change (special
tools/time required?).
Any insight would be appreciated.
