     Yep, I think it's time, I believe the standard interval is 60K.  
     aparently it is pretty easy.  The part can be had from the dealer 
     (expensive) or try Timmons VW, or New Dimensions for a better price, 
     ~$50 I think, then remove your airbox for better access, insert the 
     correct metric bolt in to the belt tensioner to relieve the belt 
     tension (5x100 I think) then remove belt and replace with new one in 
     the same position.  I have never done this my self though so you 
     probably want to get a second opinion or check a Bently manual.

I used to call it the "fan belt", but I don't know what to call these new 
all-in-one grooved jobs...
     
Anyway, my 95 VR6 is approaching 70K and the belt driving the alternator, 
etc. is starting to look a bit cracked.  What is the recommended change 
interval, how much is the belt, and how difficult is it to change (special 
tools/time required?).
     
Any insight would be appreciated.
