Depends upon the file type, as indicated by the extension. For example .mov clips *need* Quicktime, as I know to my sorrow (until I'm willing to take the time to download it) from a friend who keeps trying to send them to me.  If it's the one that was on the list yesterday, I think that was a windows media file, although real one will work on a lot of things too.
