   This all gets very dicey.  I remember seeing a show on TV once with an author who had written a book about race and sports, and how certain groups have certain talents/physiological traits, whatever.  He mentions things like the Kenyan marathoners.  Jim Brown was on the panel and, when the author mentioned that over 80% of NBA players are black, attacked the author for being a racist.  HUH?  I never did see his objection, but the reaction to Ryan's piece (which I didn't read) makes it clear that even today, it is tough to ask, in mixed company, "How come most pro basketball players are black?  How come fewer and fewer blacks are in major league baseball?  Why do Kenyans win all the marathons?"
