The Off-Season: The Baker Buyout

Part I of a continuing look at the Celtics off-season maneuvers.

While the Celtics may be meandering in mediocrity during the current season,
the off-season should prove to be truly intriguing.

And one of the first moves on the Ainge agenda
(or preferably sooner) has to be a buyout of Vin Baker's contract.

Vin's goose is simply cooked, at least as long as Coach Jimmy is
running the on-court proceedings and Vin's plunge back into
obsolescence continues.

And while Vin is under no obligation to accept a buyout, the Celtics
are under no obligation to play him, so Vin can collect his money,
but spend the next two seasons, solitude sitting, at the far end of the bench.

Vin, from recent statements, apparently thinks he still has the goods,
though present output and past circumstances tend to peel away
at what he believes to be the truth. But if he really thinks he can still contribute,
the opportunity is there for him to accept a buyout and catch
on with another club.

And catch on he shall, as NBA teams are always looking for size
and low post scoring, no matter how flawed the player may be.
And who knows? Away from Jimbo and with a real PG, perhaps
Baker will recapture early season's glory. Not that it's helped
Kedrick Brown or changed Walker's game.
