Jay Brockton Ma: Why have the C,s failed in developing any young talent?(besides Pierce..of cource) I couldnt wait for Chis Wallace to go, but if you think about it he didnt do that bad a job.( billups mercer moiso johnson brown ) all those guys can play, but never got a real shot. Does OB favor the vets because it just seems like these guys never got a real shot..

Dr. Jack Ramsay: The Cs haven't made good choices in recent years...Billups - a Pitino pick, then trade - was their best of the group you mention. Obie liked him, but he was only an assistant then. Mercer wanted a big contract or out...hasn't shown he deserves big numbers yet...Moiso doesn't play regularly (12 games) at Toronto; Johnson is inconsistent at Phoenix; and Brown remains a ? at Cleveland. And you forgot Joe Forte...who's out of the league. Banks has a chance, but needs maturing...but he's getting a chance to play.
Yes, Obie prefers vets...as most coaches. But he's playing Welsh...who had almost no pt until he got to Boston...and he's playing quite well. Mihm has a chance to be a contributor also.

Kelso (NYC) : Hi, Dr. Jack. How good can Jiri Welsch be? Has he surprised you (and Obie) with his level of play in Boston?

Dr. Jack Ramsay: I'm surprised Jiri has fit in as quickly as he has...Obie is also pleased. The Cs think he can play either point or 2. Needs to gain consistency...but most new players go thru that stage. So far, he's the silver lining behind the Dallas trade.
