Just listened to Danny Ainge on FSNE explain his reasoning.

He said his main concern was positioning for the draft. He specifically 
mentioned HIGH SCHOOL players as the ones he wants to get on a long-term 
basis.  He thinks this year's draft will be deep, even if the Pistons pick 
ends up in the 20's.  He also sees Atkins as an upgrade over James at that 
position.
