Trading Pierce For A Big Man

Trading Pierce.

I'm beginning to think that it's time to do so.
Probably best to get all the destruction and demolition done in one
season, rather than over a prolonged period. This is Boston after
all and Celtics Nation here gets very jittery during extended
times of reconstruction.

But of course, you just don't give Pierce away.

Trading Pierce for a Big Man/Star Power Forward:

Tis very true the Celtics need a star frontcourter. Blount improving,
but never set to be an All-Star and likely to depart after the season.
Perkins can be very good in time, but not likely to be among
the premiere big men. LaFrentz is solid, when not injured.
Mihm may not make the trading deadline.
Hunter could be solid, if given a chance, some think,
but it's not entirely certain he'll be on the team next year.

So, the Celtics need for an impact big guy has been established.

But can you trade Pierce for one of them?

Tis possible.

Pierce for Gasol for instance, might intrigue Jerry, as he wants a
impact player, and they have Swift in reserve. But I think West's preference
would be for Kobe instead of Pierce, as the Grizzlies have Mike Miller
after all. Still with Kobe likely to remain with one of the LAs, Pierce
may be very tempting.

Pierce for O'Neil isn't happening.

Pierce for Webber? Webber's always injured and they have the great Stojakovic.

Pierce for Ben Wallace? That's a deal LB would do, as Darko
will eventually, in time, have an impact. Ainge, I don't think would.

Pierce for Darko? Now that would be a flame-thrower of a deal.

Pierce for Zach Randolph? Portland with Pierce buddy Rahim
could definitely be interested.

Pierce for Chris Bosh? Ainge loves him, but Toronto has Carter
after all.

Pierce for Abdul-Rahim? Hold out for Randolph.

Pierce for Garnett? He-he.

Pierce for Nowitzki? Very unlikely.

Pierce for Boozer and the Cav's lottery pick? Interesting
but unlikely.

Pierce for Kirilenko, cap space, and a point guard? Hmmm.
Utah wouldn't do it.

Pierce and others for Yao Ming? Unlikely.

Pierce for Elton Brand? Very interesting.
Ainge does it. The Clippers? Nope, as their Kobe spacing.

Pierce for Amare Stoudemire? Too many Shawn Kemp flashbacks.

Pierce for Curry or Chandler? Their expiration date is nearing.

Pierce for Shaq? Truly unlikely.

Pierce for Kenyon Martin? Nope, but NJ certainly considers it.

Pierce for Duncan? Hah.

So, what the above list shows that why it's very difficult to trade Pierce
for an impact big man, because of various factors, it's not impossible.
