You're right... they merely chalk it up to finances not on-floor performance.
All part of the confusion over "Danny's BIG PICTURE." Is it to trim salaries, 
strip us to the bone thus forcing us into the lottery, make trades which 
will keep us presently competitive (like NY),  or start putting in
place any .50 cent on the dollar upgrade who Danny hopes will be part 
of our future?  Assuming it's the latter, maybe Danny himself better 
coach the talent he has assembled.  Who else would be able to blend it 
all together as a smooth-running, up-tempo machine?
