I think it will come. Marcus has great body control
and has finished nicely a couple of times among the
trees. His problem right now is when he takes it to
the hoop. Often, it seems to me, he'll just decide to
burn his man (since he can do it whenever he wants)
without surveying the floor to see if the basket is
open. That's the wrong move. He could get away with
that in college, but not in the NBA. Players like
Palacio (the ultimate layup shooter) or Jiri seem to
pick their spots and get to the rim easily for
uncontested layups. The only difference is that they
do it when the big guy either has been pulled from the
paint or is cut off by the nature of the penetration.
It's the same thing when you or I play basketball.
I'm probably the same height as Marcus (a shade under
6 foot), but I can easily get to the rim and finish
without the use of blinding speed by simply watching
the shotblockers to see if they are either sleeping,
away from the rim, or otherwise engaged. It's quite
easy to do, you just have to be watching and know what
to be watching for. It comes with experience.
