Re: Celtics Talking Trade For Battier?

I would disregard this one. This site has put out some very wild trade
rumors, none of which have come true. Also, it doesn't make sense to trade a guy
with upside and a center just for a role player in Battie and to save a few
million in salary.....

 5-Player deal in the works

Ring, ring, ring, that's all Jerry West has been hearing
lately. Teams are apparently phoning for guard/forward Shane
Battier. In order for Battier to leave the team, they want size
and somewhat youth back. Danny Ainge, Celtic's new GM, has been
 eyeing Shane Battier.
West has been entertained by offers, but seems like the
Celtic one makes the most sense and West feels it's a good move
for the Grizzlies franchise. The deal would package Kedrick Brown,
who has unlimited potential, with rough Eric Williams and big man
Tony Battie to Memphis for Shane Battier, Wesley Person and a
future 2nd round pick. Celtic coach O'Brien loves to play the 3-
point game and Wesley Person can compliment his style of coaching.
Shane Battier will bring in defense and youth to the team.
Deal has been brought to each GM's mind and are trying to
 work out a deal.

(Doesn't solve their point guard problem, however, but does work
cap wise, and Person is on the last year of his contract.

Battier is solid, smart, and hard-working, but not great and never will be.

Battier is averaging 7.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.25 steals in 19.8
minutes of playing time. Person is averaging 6 points in 19 minutes
 of playing time. >>
