Re: Tinsley May Be Available

I watched Lakers/Bucks and thought the same thing. Bucks were up 6 with about 3 minutes to go and from that point on every call went the Lakers way. There was one situation where the bucks went hard to the hoop on 4 straight occasions and clearly were fouled. None of them were called fouls. On one play, Malone grabbed Tim Thomas's arm and yanked it down jarring the ball loose. It was obviously one of those "OK, you beat me but i'm going to foul you and make you earn it at the line" type of fouls. There was no whistle blown. I thought Terry Porter was going to burst a blood vessel.

I guess David Stern has sold his soul to the Laker devil this year. It was pretty obvious watching that game that the league wants to see the Lakers win.

I was thinking the same thing about Tinsley. Did the Pacers pick up his
option for next season? Wouldn't a Kedrick-for-Tinsley deal work easily
enough? Anyway, I think Tinsley has shown he can play point guard in the
NBA, especially in an up-tempo game. The Pacers, though, are moving more
toward a half-court game and have been for three seasons. I think Tinsley
would be a great addition and really solidify that point guard spot.

As for Obie and Banks... I didn't like the quotes from Banks in the paper
about avoiding turnovers and even quoting his assist-to-turnover ratio. You
have to let young players make some mistakes. But that's not Obie's style.
Obie's one of those coaches who doesn't appreciate spectacular plays as much
as he loathes mistakes. The best coaches understand that a mix of both is
best. You can't have a wild player making lots of mistakes while trying to
make every play a highlight reel keeper. But you don't want to coach the
risk-taking creativity out of a guy either. There has to be a balance. But I
don't think all of Banks' problems are Obie. There are certain point guard
instincts that the kid just doesn't possess right now.

And Ray, your last point about needing court-savvy players is dead-on, and
I'm also hoping Welsch earns some minutes. This team is at its best when it
has its "smart" players out there - Pierce, James, Lafrentz, Baker, EWill.
It struggles when the "defenders" are in there together - Blount, Kedrick,
Banks. The Celts need to play smart to win.

Mark

P.S. Did anyone else watch the Lakers and Bucks last night? Two thoughts -
the Bucks are better than expected, and the officials all but handed the
Lakers the game down the stretch. It was awful.

He's apparently been demoted to the third PG in the Indy rotation
behind Anderson and Anthony Johnson. Tinsley can't shoot, but he can pass
and run an offense, especailly a fast-breaking one, and that's what the
Celtics
need at the moment.

I don't think O'Brien has had much of an effect on Banks. He's simply not
ready this season, and they need to find someone who is.

And hopefully Welsch will be accorded sonme playing the time.
They need players on the court who can pass and are court-wise.
Banks, Brown, Battie, Blount, McCarty, etc. don't exactly have
the highest basketball IQs on the planet.
