It doesn't look like there's a good (or even potentially good) center
available in the middle of the 1st round. Pokholdzine, according to
Darko M., cannot even walk. And I'm not aware of any that might be
available for trade, except in exchange for Antoine Walker.
On the other hand, good (or potentially good) power forwards- people
who can block out and rebound very well- are available via both draft
and trade. Which once again raises the question of AW's status. If you
were in Danny Ainge's shoes, could you possibly address the Celtics'
deficiencies at the 4 and 5 positions without either trading AW for
acceptable value or forcing him to play a the 3 role? I don't think so.
It will be interesting to see what Ainge ultimately does. I say
"ultimately", because it looks like it will take time to achieve Ainge's
stated goals.
I hope that DA is capable of realizing that building a championship team
is not like playing poker, but like playing chess.
