East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Chris Childs has agreed to a
buyout offer from the New Jersey Nets and was expected to be waived by
the team, pending NBA approval.

Childs, who was suspended by the Nets before the start of the season
for failing to stay in shape, signed a two-year deal with New Jersey
prior to the season.

The 35-year-old Childs played in just 12 contests for New Jersey this
season.

He averaged 1.3 points and 1.3 assists per game.

A former Knick and Raptor, Childs was in his second stint with the
Nets. He was originally not drafted by an NBA team and went on to play
in the CBA from 1989-90 to 1993-94. The point guard was signed as a
free agent by New Jersey in July 1994.

Childs, who signed as a free agent with New York in July 1996 and was
then traded by the Knicks with a 2001 first-round draft pick to Toronto
for Mark Jackson and Mugsy Bogues in February 2001, has played in 541
games over his nine-year career. He has career-averages of 6.9 points
and 4.9 assists.
