Thomas is a very popular guy in Indy from playing college ball there.  No
benefit to upsetting season ticket holders when your the front office guy.

Plus Carlisle is under contract for another year as is Thomas.  Bird won't
want to give up a draft pick to bring in Carlisle or pay Thomas for being a
TV announcer and ripping him every chance he gets.

Indy is a couple years/trades/FA's away from going for it all.  No need to
rush when you can do it on your own terms.
