Re: Who are the 6 pure point guards left ?

You left off Gary Payton, who I'm sure Ainge had included.

I think his 6 were probably:

Kidd
Payton
Cassell
Nash

Not sure aboutthe other 2. Maybe Bibby and Tinsley.

Who do you think Ainge was thinking of, when he said there's only 6 pure
point guards left in the league?

When you talk about active NBA players who pass first, run the offense
and try to make players better, I can think of 6 players. Only 2 of
them have been any good by NBA standards, so I don't think the other 4
are the ones Danny was talking about.
Jason Kidd
Jamaal Tinsley
Pepe Sanchez
Jacque Vaughn
Mateen Cleaves
Steve Blake

The new breed of pg's are either...

1. Shooters who actually have an uncanny feel for the game and passing
skills: Bibby, Cassell, Nash, Jason Williams(Memphis), Kirk Hinrich,
Marko Jaric. (My favorites)

2. Stud athletes/scorers who aren't really passers: Baron Davis,
Francis, Marbury. (A dime a dozen in college and playgrounds nowadays)

3. Penetrators/dishers with shakey jumpers: Andre Miller, Raefer
Alston, TJ Ford. (They have trouble becoming stars, and the zone rules
won't help)

4. Tough guy scrubs who defend: Eric Snow, Earl Watson, Derek Fisher,
Kevin Ollie. (Always have surprisingly long careers)

Marcus Banks would fall under #3. JR #4, Mike James and Delk would sort of fall under #2.

Pure floor generals who can get 10 ast/game are a dying breed, and some
good ones recently, didn't earn a whiff of NBA PT(Pepe, Omar Cook, El
Amin).
