just spoke to wallace

Here's what he told me for tomorrow's column:

1) Best isn't going to be offered a penny more than the minimum. No wiggle
room at all.
Prepare to hate Gaston even more than you already do.

2) If they can't get Best, they might not sign a point guard at all. They
already have three
on the roster, and won't bother with a fourth if they can't get a
"difference maker." (It doesn't sound
as if he thinks the guys out there beyond Best are that great.)

3) they will sign sombody, though, possibly a power forward. I asked
Wallace if this might be an
enforcer of some sort, and wallace said that he thought the idea of a "cop"
was overrated. He likes skill guys,
not a goon who doesn't bring any shooting or rebounding the table.

4) he thinks miami might offer Best half of their midlevel exception.

5) They're not interested in any international PGs this year.

Between what he said and what Steve Kyler at hoopsworld says, I really doubt
we will get best. But it will be interesting
to speculate on who the last guy is. Wallace says it might be a while
before they sign the guy, whoever he is.
