Pre-season stats show Paul Pierce leading the league in
scoring at 21.3 ppg.

But despite all the starter minutes they've been getting,
NO Celtic ranks in the top 40 in rebounding (Battie is
43rd) or top 20 in assists (Paul Pierce is 24th at 4.0).
Gimmeabreak.

Pierce leads the league in 3-pointers made and is
hitting .486 on them. Delk ranks 4th in both trey%
at .583 and treys made.

BTW, there is a nice photo gallery at NBA.Com's Celtics
team page of the players taking part in the Read to
Achieve program. (Paul Pierce needs to work on his
drawing skills.)

As for Gordon Giricek (the Memphis sensation), here's
some info on the Croatian 25-year-old rookie (BTW, isn't
Josip Sesar a Croatian 25-year-old? Oh well).

Giricek doesn't seem to do much other than score, but
he's looking like a light's out shooter so far. Give
Jerry West credit for trading a second rounder for his
rights.

Of course, you look at the rookie leaders and a lot of
these guys are no names and might disappear to the end of
the bench once injured players return and the real games
start. But hat's off to them obviously, nonetheless.

Some guy named Mike Batiste is averaging 14.4 ppg in 8
games for the Clippers. Rasual Butler is the 2nd leading
scorer for Miami. The immortal Pat Burke and Jannero
Pargo are averaging 8.9 and 8.3 ppg respectively.

Some of you may have heard of these guys before, but I
sure haven't!

Go Celts!

Joe H.
