Like they were a playoff threat LAST year, or something... :>))

Seriously, it hearkens back to something that REALLY BUGGED me about the
Knicks. Back when they got Latrell Spreewell, they were a legitimate
playoff contender. I was outraged that Spreewell was, to my mind, being
rewarded for his act of attempted murder by being traded to a
high-visibility team in a major city. Despite that I respected Patrick
Ewing, I siuncerely hoped that as long as Spreewell was there, that the
Knicks never got anywhere near a championship, because I felt he didn't
deserve to be honored so by being referred to as "A member of the NBA
Championship team...".

Ever since, the Knicks have been a train wreck. I feel bad for ALMOST all
of them--though I have no wish for their success to come at our
expense. Having survived Pitino, I know what it's like as a fan to have to
sit there and take it when someone says "Your team SUCKS this
year!"--because you know that right then--sigh--it's true.

The minute Spreewell goes, I'll wish New York well.

Up to a point, of course. The Celtics still come first in my mind--and
hopefully, in the NBA.
