on the record...

In the last couple of seasons, many people--notably sportswriters--have
made fun of the NBA's Eastern Conference, comparing it unfavorably with the
West.

Consider this: Two weeks into the season--
The Western Conference is 16-23 against the Eastern Conference.
The East is 24-16 against the west.

The Midwest Division went 9-10, the Pacific, 7-13. That means that the
division with the two teams everyone said were playing for 1 & 2 in their
conference last year and a sure lock against the East, were losing nearly
twice as often as they won.

The Atlantic Division went 11-4, the Central, 13-12. The division that
contained the two teams (Celtics and Nets) the nobody predicted to make the
playoffs last year won nearly three times as many games as they lost
against the west.

In the West, there are only five teams with winning records against the
East--Dallas (4-0), Seattle (4-0), Sacrament (3-0), Dan Antonio (4-2), &
Houston (2-1).

In the East, there are seven teams winning against the West--Boston (3-0),
New Jersey (2-0), Indiana (2-0), Detroit (4-2), Philadelphia, (3-2), & New
York (1-0).

New York--whose ONLY WIN came against a Western Conference Team.

The West has 4 teams that are 0-everything against the East. (Technically
5, but Portland hasn't played any EC teams yet).

The East has 4 teams 0-everything against the West. This does NOT include
the worst team in the Conference.

So, maybe some of those loudmouths who belittle the East need to sit down
and shut up while Boston and New Jersey fight it out next Summer over who
takes the NBA Championship this year.
