"Sacramento is the purest definition of team the league has seen in
years. Boston is not. While the Celtics rely on a stationary offense
that focuses on the offensive prowess of two players who play off one
another, the Kings play an entertaining movement game, with players
cutting to the basket or finding open spots on the perimeter. "We got
blasted by a very, very - I'm stating the obvious - very good basketball
team,'' said Celtics head coach Jim O'Brien. "We did not have the
answers for their ball movement and their great shooting.'' The Kings
understand that it is much easier and much quicker to pass the ball to
find an open shot than to try and take a man off the dribble to find
that same shot. Boston clearly doesn't. Movement without the ball
versus movement with the ball. Which wins? In the case of last night's
tilt between Boston and Sacramento at the FleetCenter, the former does
as Vlade Divac and the Kings dissected an inferior Boston club, 102-85.
Divac, by the way, collected a triple double of 15 points, 14 rebounds
and 10 assists. For a brief moment at the end of the first quarter when
both Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce were resting on the bench, Boston
played the movement game. Kenny Anderson, Erick Strickland and Walter
McCarty ran, moved without the ball and actually increased a two point
lead to eight points, taking advantage of the slow foot speed of Divac,
Peja Stojakovic, and Hedo Turkoglu. However when Paul Pierce and
Antoine Walker returned to the game, all thought of playing the movement
game stopped as head coach Jim O'Brien kept calling isolation for Walker
and Pierce - to the detriment of the offense of course. What to say?
To the Celtics players and coaching staff, only this: watch the tape of
the game and see how real basketball is played, but to his credit
Antoine Walker seemed to take notice. ''They're a great team,'' said
Walker. ''They've got six or seven guys averaging double figures.
They're playing basketball the way it should be played. They're
spreading the ball out. A lot of guys are getting a high number of
assists. They bring a lot to the table. They're going to be very
dangerous. With the addition of Mike Bibby, they may have finally put
together the team to contend with the Lakers to get out of the West.
They're on their way to 65 wins probably.'' Whether Walker consistently
acts on his insight is another matter entirely. Walker finished with 26
points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists as the Celtics lost for the fourth time
in six games while falling to 28-21 on the season. Up next, a much
needed rest over the All-Star break.

The Celtics got another weak performance from Eric Williams who did not
score for the third time in the past six games. Where is rookie Joe
Johnson? Looking for Williams' game as well as his own it would appear.
You know how it goes. Rookies carry bags, run errands, and find the
lost games of their more senior teammates."
