RE: Omar Cook

Weaker than Kidd in the sense that he did have a habit of throwing up
ill-advised shots which Kidd doesn't do. Tinsley will force a shot now
and then too, but has a better jumper, which is not saying much.
However, Cook did improve his jumper during the course of his freshman
year at St. John's. I only saw him play briefly in the NBDL so I can't
really comment on whether he has improved it anymore. I would say Cook
is a better athlete than either Kidd or Tinsley.

Guys can learn to shoot however, well except maybe for Wayne Turner, but
Turner had so many mechanical flaws in his shot...

Anyway, look at Vaughn, Kidd, Brevin Knight, and even Stockton. They
have become adequate shooters over time. I saw Kidd and Knight play
quite abit when they were at Cal and Stanford respectively and both were
horrific jump shooters even from 12-15 feet.

Cook was a terrific penetrator in college, both on the break and more
importantly in the half court set. Explosive first step with the
quickness, strength, and handle to take defenders off the dribble like
B. Davis does. He's going to need some work and will be a project, but
he has a bleepload of talent and for those that want intensity and
confidence surrounding that talent, a lot of that too....

Is his offensive game any weaker than Tinsley or Kidd, and we really
need a penetrating floor leader like a Baron Davis not a scorer.

Cook can definitely run with the big boys. He has the court vision of
Jason Kidd, Jamaal Tinsley, etc, and as Chris Wallace stated, he is
electric in the open floor. Clearly, the Celtics are looking to unleash
some fast break basketball next year and Cook is a highlight reel in
that respect. The question with him is one of a very inconsistent
jumper as well as very questionable shot selection, which means he
should fit in quite well with the Celtics....

Looks like the C's picked up Omar Cook. I like this move because it
gives is a backup for when Strickland takes off next year.

Maybe Forte can get some time at the 2?

The down side is that Cook has been released from 2 teams already.
Kicking ass in the minor leagues, but may not have what it takes to run
with the big boys. For $70,000 and a kid who is 20 years old, (who we
almost took with the 21 spot) this is a sound move!
