Tommy and "Smithers"

Heinsohn and Mike Gorman are "the longest-running tandem on sports
telecasts in America" at 22-years, reports the Herald's Jim Baker. I hope
the Celtics can reward them with a great season.

``When I got the job, I thought it would be great if I could keep it up for
a couple of years,'' Gorman reflected recently. And now? ``What I enjoy
most is the thought of a guy from Dorchester who grew up going to the
Garden to watch Bob Cousy, Bill Russell and Tommy play becoming friends and
partners with Tom and Cooz, my boyhood idols,'' he said.

Heinsohn, who played on eight Celtics NBA champions and coached two, has a
Celtics broadcast history that dates to 1966 - working solo, on
play-by-play and raspy Green-leaning analysis. (....)

Heinsohn bleeds nearly as much green as the late Johnny Most. Heinsohn
laughed as he remembered plunging so far off the deep end, one night he
claimed the F in referee Ed F. Rush ``stands for fool'' and on another, he
cussed about an anti-Celtics call as Rick Pitino's dark era began with an
upset of the champion Bulls. ``I got a little carried away and Mike looked
at me with one eye in the air,'' he said.
