So, what's the lesson here? That the Celtics' two stars are ball hogs?
Couldn't you just as easily say all this proves is that the Celtics' point
guards suck? If Jason Kidd makes Van Horn and Kittles look good, imagine
how he'd make Walker and Pierce look! No matter how you approach it, you
can still keep coming back to two explanations. Either The Celtics don't
have enough talent surrounding Walker and Pierce, or Walker and Pierce are
ball hogs who don't make those around them better. I look at Anderson,
Williams, Battie, Potapenko, Palacio, et al and can't see how the problem
isn't the former. Will the rookies help address the problem? I hope so,
but not right away. And they will still need upgrades at both point guard
and center. I just can't believe that this team has the talent to be better
than a few games either side of .500. Frankly, the only reason they're even
that good is because Pierce has emerged as a dominant scorer and Antoine
covers up for the fact that they don't have a true point guard or power
forward.
