I hope we snarl Shandon with the 4.5mil exception, instead of resigning Stith.

Shandon Anderson Opts Out in Houston
This wasn't the way things were supposed to go for
Shandon Anderson in Houston. Two years ago Anderson
bolted the Utah Jazz, and their more lucrative contract offer, to play for the
Rockets and their mid-level exception. The idea, unwritten of course, was that
when the Rockets finally got some cap room in the summer of 2001, Anderson
would cash in on a big deal. But then came Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley and
Anderson has become almost an
after thought on this young and rising team. Anderson's agent, Dan Fegan,
confirmed yesterday that Anderson has opted
out of his contract with the Rockets and will become a free agent. "This is
just a good business decision for Shandon to test the free agent waters," Fegan
said. Anderson's opt out is no surprise. He is still only making the
mid level exception. But talk in Houston has the Rockets going after a
more athletic small forward in the draft and dedicating most of their cap room
to signing Chris Webber or Mo Taylor. If
Anderson's contract demands get too unwieldy, he may be wearing a new uniform
next season.
