It costs Gasol (not the team that drafts him) $2 million to buy out the last 
year of his contract in Spain.  If he is drafted in the top 5, the rookie 
scale guarantees him more than $2 million.  If he is drafted lower, he would 
lose money, and would play out his contract before coming to the NBA.
