Hi JB, good points as always. As far as the issue of money goes, maybe
think of it this way.

Allan Houston and Antonio Davis (just two of many well paid NBA stars) are
slotted to contribute upwards of 50 million dollars out of pocket in taxes
that pay for school teachers, medicare and other pretty useful services.
That's a lot more than we'll ever contribute.

Well, I'm not sure it matters who spends the money, where; eventualy the government like the "house" at the track gets it all. One big circle, from the printing press to the IRS.
If we can think philosophically, and I know there are several of us that try, there is a distribution of wealth going on, through major league sports.
From the upper classes and working classes that support the game, to the mostly lower income, inner city Americans and displaced Balkans(Balkanians?) that play it. This may not be a bad thing. I really do hope that the players take this wealth seriously and start some businesses and foundations with this wealth; more money than they can ever spend on themselves, with any sense of decency.
If nothing else, since the average NBA player has 17 kids, there will be a lot of students named Williams and Brown at ivy league colleges in 15-20 years. Now if they have 2-4 kids each and so on, there should be many more doctors, lawyers and industrialists from Belgrade and Compton in the next few generations.
   By the way; ESPN reports:
The Raptors have agreed to terms with forward Jerome Williams on a 7-year deal -- Williams will fit into the Raptors' $4.5 million salary cap exception for free agents, ESPN The Magazine's Rick Bucher reported Wednesday.
The Raptors will also resign point guard Alvin Williams to a 5-year deal averaging $5 million per season, Bucher reported.
These signings -- in addition to the signing of Antonio Davis -- does not leave the Raptors strapped against the salary cap, and could enhance their chances of resigning Vince Carter, who becomes a free agent after next season.
