I have to disagree with Mercer and Billups, for one you have to look at that draft and after about 2 players the next 5-6 have played for as many teams as they have years in the league, so it was a very poor draft. At that time I think most thought these were good choices and I personally expected Mercer to be a lot better. he just has not improved his perimeter game.
 
If you want to get picky in the pre-pitino years we could have selected Michael Finley instead of Eric Williams, and probably something better than Montross. I don't hear anyone talking about those brilliant selections. Although Walker is a marketable commodity, I am not sure he has the leadership ability to take us to the next level. To me he just wants his touches and to sit out side launching 3's. I have to admit he has played well as of late.
 
Billups will always be merely a role player. it would have been better to apprentice him in under Wesley, but at the time we could not live with a backcourt of Wesley, Dee Brown, and Barros. I think Kenny is a better point than Wesley, just not as durable and would probably be better on another team.
 
I don't think Billups or Mercer is much more marketable than what we have and that is why they have changed teams about 4 times each. Chicago was the only one to offer Mercer much and that was because they needed to fill some roster spots, and some seats, because nobody else wanted to go there.
 
Fox has been a big disappointment with the Lakers.
 
 
A lot of what could have been in the last 10 years.

We didn't have 12 years of drought..hey Chris Ford had taken teams to 1st or 2nd round of playoffs..we would be very happy to accomplish some of those goals now. Yes we did not go to championship game  but lottery to Championship takes time (look at the lakers even with Shaq they made it to the Championship only last season).

Regarding marketable commodities who do we have, with the exception of Walker and Pierce. Pitino drafted Pierce but the Walker move was engineered by ML and he shoud be given credit for it. Needless to say that Billups & Mercer could have been marketable but he gave them away. I doubt if we can aquire both of them (without giving away Walker & Pierce) even if we are willing to throw all the 3 first round picks that we have.

Now about Fox & Wesley, both of them are still playing in the NBA and contributing. Can you say that KA is a better pg than David Wesley ? I would take Wesley over KA every time. Coming to Fox, he was a good defender and could create match up problems because he played several positions. He was/is far superior to any talent that RP aquired through his haphazard trading ways.

Pitino should return some of the money that the Celtics paid him, which will enable them to trade some of his mistakes away. He has done irreparable damage to the Celtics cap with his total inability to evaluat and analyze talent. Realize this that KA has another 19 mill coming his way in two years and there is no team who would take him even if we pay half his salary. - Mishra

    Well, here I go, for better or for worse.

    Pitino did to the Celtics organization what nobody else has ever been able to do - he pretty much wiped it out.  He wanted Aurbach's title of President because he wanted nobody over him to second guess him.  Those are his own words.  No matter what he'd done with the team, I would never have forgiven for that, alone.  The Celtics are a storied franchise largely due to Red.  I don't think anyone can argue with that - that's why his statue is out front of the Fleet Center.  However, just as I've come to like Antoine because of the way he's turned himself around, I never changed my mind about Pitino as an NBA coach, and I never will.  I don't "hate" him - but I don't feel one bit sorry for him, either.  He'll bounce back, hopefully in college - I only hope he's learned some humility from his experience with the Celtics.  His ego was just too large to survive here.  His outbursts agains! t the fans and players were not to be tolerated.  I've never known a coach to do that.  He acted like a spoiled brat, which he probably is, though a grown man. 

    It's not an accident that O'Brien was able to turn this team around.  He respects these guys as men, not boys - and treats them like men.  He's been watching these first years under RP and he knows why he wasn't getting through to them.  He learned from that.  Good for him. 

    One thing I'm happy about is that he traded neither Pierce or Walker.  We're all a happy bunch right now and the seats are filling up in the Fleet Center.  People I meet here in town who haven't mentioned the Celtics to me in a very long time are  stopping me on the street to talk about the Celtics again - with smiles on their faces.  Most of these people were pleased when Pitino was hired, but changed their minds long ago. 

    Pitino has gone on to whatever his future brings and the Celtics are winning.  Celtic Pride is back again after a very long drought.  We're looking forward to the games instead of watching out of a sense of duty - at least that was true in my case.  Let Pitino go on to the rest of his life and let's get on with the current state of affairs.
