Title: ".....a waste of time and taslent."
There is another good column this AM in the "Herald.">>www.bostonherald.com/sport/basketball/nbants04082001.htm.<<
Marc Coffman analyzes the C's for next season and comes to the popular conclusion that a true distributing point guard with scoring skills is the key to a succesful off season. I concur, but have long been wary that Antoine will not allow anyone else to control the "rock."
Check out Coffman's analysis of Walker's game:
"The Celtics need a point guard capable of running the entire show for any number of reasons, starting with the fact it would relieve Walker of those duties so that he can take his multiple skills to the post and wings. Having a player of Walker's size and ability dribbling around the perimeter some 35 feet from the basket is a waste of time and talent.
If the Celtics can bring in a point guard capable of scoring when called upon, as Anderson once did in healthier days, all the better. If not, the Celtics will also need to find another scorer off the bench to complement Pierce and Walker, who continue to carry too much of an offensive load. When Pierce and Walker are off their games, the Celtics lose. Period. Playoff-caliber teams have other options to call upon."
