Pierce/Battie

Well I was wondering where Battie was also.  Not during the fight.  He has
no reason to die.  We are talking about dying here, not just throwing
punches and getting bruises. (Though I would have been pleased to read that
Battie laid out the guy with the knife with a pool cue) But if Battie drove
Pierce to the hospital why did he leave him in the parking lot?  Why didn't
he go into the hospital with him?  Why not stay with him and contact Pitino
etc...  What was/is Battie hiding?
