Re:Incredible piece on Herren.

Couldn't agree more. Jason Williams is criticized a lot (some of it
deserved) for his sub-standard assist/turnover ratio, his poor defense, and
his low shooting percentage, but the guy has made everyone on that team
think pass-first. When you think of the Kings now, you think of Williams and
Webber and Divac whipping the ball around like the Globetrotters. Granted,
they sometimes take it to extremes, but they have developed a culture of
unselfishness there because they all now think it's cool to pass. Do you
remember thinking that about Webber or Divac before Williams came along? I
don't.
That's what I'm hoping Herren can bring to the Celts--some creative,
crowd-pleasing passing that becomes contagious. Toine's certainly capable. I
don't think there's any question that he and Webber are the most creative
passing power forwards in the game. If Herren can come in, make an impact
with his passing that is appreciated by the fans, maybe the rest of these
guys will pick up on it. Plus, everyone is more willing to pass the ball
when they have confidence that teammates will pass it back.
Kenny doesn't turn the ball over much and is a better shooter than Williams.
Defense is a wash. Who would you rather have? Williams in a heartbeat. I'd
love to see the impact that kind of PG would have on the Celts. Maybe Herren
is that kind of guy.
