Ceballos to Heat

Miami gains forward for draft pick

MIAMI -- The Miami Heat, looking for help off the bench, acquired
forward Cedric Ceballos from the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night for a
conditional second-round draft choice.

Ceballos is an 11-year veteran with career averages of 14.6 points and
5.5 rebounds. He has played 11 seasons for the Phoenix Suns, the Los
Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Pistons.

Ceballos' best season was 1995, when he was named to the All-Star Game
as a Laker.

This season, the 6-foot-7, 220-pound small forward averaged 5.8 points
in limited playing time this season with the Pistons. He scored a
season-high 23 points on Nov. 15 against Indiana, and the
offense-starved Heat are hoping he can provide some.

The Heat have been hit by injuries this season, especially at small
forward. Ceballos is expected to step into a bench role expected to be
filled by swingman Dan Majerle, who has missed much of the season with a
torn hamstring.

Also out are forwards Ricky Davis, who has a broken foot, and Don
MacLean recovering from foot surgery.

To make room for Ceballos, the Heat waived forward Jamal Robinson, who
made the team as a free agent but appeared in only six games this
season.
