<<...>> Cavs Order a White Russian According to the Beacon Journal, the
Cavs Will Draft Iakovos Tsakalidis With The 8th Pick
<http://ohio.com/bj/sports/cavs/docs/025463.htm>. Greek center Iakovos
Tsakalidis will arrive in Cleveland tomorrow for a workout. If all goes
well, he might want to consider staying until Wednesday's draft. Several NBA
personnel men said yesterday that if his contract situation can be ironed
out, Tsakalidis is the most likely candidate to be taken by the Cavaliers
with the No. 8 pick. The Cavs also are closely eyeing Minnesota center Joel
Przybilla, but he might not drop down to No. 8. 'There is such a lack of
quality size (in the NBA),'' said Paxson, whose team desperately needs
insurance for often-injured center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. ``And you look at the
future drafts down the road. You look at teams in the league and everybody
is looking for size. But for us it would be tough to consider anybody, even
if we got on a comfort level on his upside and progression, without knowing
for sure if we can start that progression in July.'' The Cavs are trying to
buyout the rest of his contract and things are looking sunnier. The Cavs,
who are over the salary cap, would be able to pay $350,000 of the amount,
while Tsakalidis would pay the rest. Cavs European scout Rudy D'Amico says
AEK is looking for a total of about $1.3 million, but he believes the amount
can be lowered. ``I know that team,'' D'Amico said. ``I don't think they
want to stand in the way of his playing in the NBA. They don't want an
unhappy player on their team.'' Rant about it on the Cavs Rant
