my guess

is that this is something that was discussed earlier this summer,
and that Aldridge is only now getting wind of it.  Or, it's one of the
"eight things going on" which took a back seat to this other, much
better deal with Denver and LA.  I don't think you would be hearing
so many confirmations on how far along that deal is if this one were
close to happening.
