talking to the Celtics about a possible sign-and-trade deal involving
guard Ron Mercer, who they won`t be bringing back. The Celtics traded
Mercer to Denver a year ago, but Coach Rick Pitino wants him back now.
Mercer also could be signed by the New Jersey Nets, who need a shooting
guard with the knee problems of Kerry Kittles hanging over them.

And Povtak questions Boston's interest in Croshere:

How desperate are the Celtics now to create interest in a struggling
franchise? They have been talking about Indiana Pacers free agent Austin
Croshere as if he is the next Larry Bird. Croshere has had one decent
season, and suddenly, his value is being over-inflated.
