Tampering Pitino Apologizes To Grizzlies

HE'S SORRY: It was probably more wishful thinking than tampering, but
Boston Celtics' president/head coach Rick Pitino has apologized to the
Vancouver Grizzlies for heating up the tenuous Mike
Bibby-on-the-trade-block rumor mill early last week.

The Grizzlies, through owner Michael Heisley, asked the NBA's legal
counsel to investigate. Grizzlies' president Dick Versace said the
league found Pitino's comments constituted tampering. However, Versace,
who said Pitino called him to apologize, indicated the Grizzlies were
not going to push for Pitino to be fined. It's not clear if the league
was prepared to sanction Pitino.
