props to Team Pitino

I think even hardened Pitino-haters have to hand it to Pitino/Wallace for
this one. They
outlasted everyone, showed superb patience, and got three valuable assets
for a player
everyone -- including a very assured Bill Simmons -- thought we would lose
for nothing.
These assets are: 1) a very gifted point guard, who when healthy, could
probably compete
with Kenny Anderson for the starters job; 2) 6 million in cap relief next
year, when Pack and
Hot Rod's contracts are up; and 3) a first round pick in what is projected
as one of the deepest
drafts ever. That makes three picks we'll have in that draft, all gifted
young players who will be
locked up for small money for five years. Pitino could have had Marshall
(and his mammoth
contract) and pretended that he wanted him in order to make this deal
happen. Great job by
the Celtics.
