The 2000 NBA Draft is drawing near as the first two pre-draft camps, the
Portsmouth Invitational and Desert Classic have been completed. The
senior class is a bit weak, as our most senior groups, due to so many
players, leaving school early. However, the 2000 Draft has gotten
deeper, due to the number of underclassmen entering the draft. There is
good overall depth, especially at point guard, shooting guard and small
forward. However, it is thin among seniors at the center spot.
With a thin senior class, the top underclassmen figure to come out early
for the pros. Thirty eight players entered the draft with twelve players
taking their name out early. A total of 167 player have put their names
into the draft the past four years, compared to 216 the previous 20
seasons.
We will look at the top 12 prospects at each positions and other players
who merit attention.
