Elton Brand and Ron Artest, two of the league’s top rookies, will lead the Chicago Bulls into Boston tonight for a match-up with the Celtics at the FleetCenter. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m.
Brand leads the team in scoring and rebounding, and is the leading candidate to score NBA Rookie-of-the-Year honors. He is averaging a double double for the season: 19.5 points per game and 10.0 boards per contest.
Another rookie, Ron Artest, who played college ball at St. John’s in New York, has also put together a fine debut season. Artest is second on the Bulls team with 12.0 ppg, but is questionable for tonight’s game with a sprained ankle.
Though these bright spots bode well for the future in Chicago, the Bulls have been through a difficult season overall. The team stands at 17-61, and will miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Two of their seventeen wins, however, have come at the expense of the Celtics. Both of them occurred in Chicago. In fact, the home team has won each of the three previous match-ups between the clubs.
Playing the role of spoilers, Boston posted a 95-91 victory over Orlando on Wednesday. Danny Fortson scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Celtics, who held the Magic without a point after Ron Mercer's lay-up with 3:40 to play. That win matched the Celtics franchise record for wins at the FleetCenter. The C’s are 24-14 at home.
Tickets are still available for tonight’s contest at the FleetCenter. The game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. Tickets, which start as low as $10, may be purchased at the FleetCenter Box Office or through Ticketmaster at (617/508) 931-2222.
