                                       PLAYER ANALYSIS

The Celtics are thinking about trading
Ron Mercer because they fear he will
not re-sign with the club after the
1999-2000 season. He is a classic
shooting guard and would be a perfect
fit for the Spurs and Heat. Mercer
still needs to improve his field-goal
percentage and become a force behind
the 3-point line. He is one player who
never gets out of shape, doesn't mind
staying out of the limelight and is
                                       getting better on defense.

                                       WHAT'S NEXT

The team has no cap room and doesn't
draft until the second round. However,
don't be surprised if Rick Pitino
makes another run at Heat forward
                                       Jamal Mashburn, who basically
disappeared in the first round of the
                                       playoffs against the Knicks. Mashburn
played for Pitino at Kentucky. Pitino
also could use a legitimate power
                                       forward because Antonio Walker plays
                                       like a small forward.
