Hear me out

I realize the following suggestion will be repugnant to almost all list
members, and Dorine may well start sending me poison-pen letters. But if we
do have to trade Ron Mercer, I know who I want for him:

Latrell Spreewell.

The guy obviously isn't a good fit for the Knicks, and he is a one man
wrecking crew on both offense and defense. I suspect that his bad shot
selection has more to do with New York's conservative sets than anything
else. If we could get pressing and running (and Spree is just the man to
help us do it) Spree could get his points in the flow of the game. Of
course, trading a man of Ron's intangibles and coachability for a perp like
Spree is awful. But then, if Ron were that upstanding a player he wouldn't
want out, would he? I think Master P may be the bad influence, but whatever
-- if Ron wants out, get Spree in here quick. He's the only comparable
talent we could realistically get. (Kobe, Ray Allen, etc. being franchise
fixtures from here on in.)
