RE: portland rumor

I like this deal (notice I didn't say love) for a couple of reasons. First,
Cato shows signs of being a real factor in somebody's frontcourt, although
it isn't likely to be Portland's (Sabonis, Grant and Wallace make minutes
hard to come by). Second, I love Jim Jackson. I know most of you know him
more from the talk out of Dallas and assume he's a troublemaker, but
speaking as someone who has followed him since his Ohio State career, let me
say that Jim Jackson is an unselfish, team-first player who is capable of
taking over games, but content to play a role. He is a great passer, a real
post-up threat and versatile enough to play three positions (PG, SG and SF).
I personally believe Jackson is a better all-around player than Mercer.
(Mercer obviously is a better shooter.) Third, Walt Williams is another
solid veteran with versatility to play SG or SF, with three-point range and
also is a surprisingly effective passer.

Picking up two veterans like Jackson and Williams and a young big man like
Cato (who could play alongside VP in a big lineup) makes it a good deal in
my book.

My only concern: It really doesn't address the PF spot, and I'm hoping
Mercer fetches our answer at that spot.
