Mercer's involvement in this sign-and-trade sounds so
completely concocted and bogus. After pledging a playoff appearance
this year, Pitino is NOT going to turn around and jump at the chance to get
a future first-round pick and another Chiquita Banana at forward. I
believe Pitino will settle for Samaki at 2 million once the bidding for
Rodney Rogers goes too high, or he'll ship Popeye home to Dallas in a
one-for-one sign and trade. No offense intended at all, but the only two
confirmed sources on this Mercer deal seem to be Warwick and
Bskball.com. <<

I second this sentiment. If the Celtics trade Ron Mercer for "also-rans,"
salary cap flexibility, and future lottery picks, I predict that they'll fall far
short of Pitino's playoff prediction. The bright side: Pitino and Wallace
can look forward to using next year's dual lottery picks (ours and the
one from Dallas) to add two more early entry candidates to the
current, painfully youthful roster.

>>>BTW, does anyone actually find Jim Rome cool? I find him hands
down the most irritating personality covering sports. He must have been
even more insufferable as a college fratboy. <<<

I second this, as well. We had Jim Rome on a local radio station for a
two-week promotional stint. Thankfully, he was not well received by the
local listeners, who succeeded in drubbing him off the air!
