NBA denies lockout is over
ESPN.com news services
NEW YORK -- NBA players are gathering in New York on
Wednesday afternoon to decide on the league's final proposal, but a
Phoenix radio station
is reporting that the 191-day lockout has been settled before the
players'scheduled 1 p.m. ET vote.
KGME Radio, citing a "high-ranking official" in the Phoenix Suns
organization, is reporting that the league and the NBA Players
Association reached an agreement Wednesday morning.
The NBA denied the report.
NBA commissioner David Stern on Monday rejected the final proposal
from the Players Association, which then decided to put the league's
last proposal to a vote of the rank and file.
If an agreement has been reached, it would come one day before the
so-called "drop dead" date. Stern reaffirmed earlier this week that
the nine-member labor relations committee would recommend to the Board
of Governors to vote to cancel the remainder of the season on Thursday.
