Mercer to miss two games

                          BOSTON -- Swingman Ron Mercer, one of the young
stars hoping to put the Boston Celtics on
                          their way back to prominence this season, suffered a
knee injury Monday that will force him to
                          miss the first two games of the abbreviated season.

                          Celtics coach Rick Pitino said Mercer injured his
right knee and will miss home games Friday
                          against the Toronto Raptors and Saturday against the
Cleveland Cavaliers.

                          Mercer is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to
learn the extent of the
                          injury.
