I couldn't agree more. I grit my teeth every time I hear Tommy make
that comment.
I was thinking while I was watching the game last night, that, in
fact, Toine rarely is effective on offense unless he faces the basket
for at least a moment (like when he gets the ball in the post, and
then spins around the defender). His pure back to the basket game is
negligible.
That's not to say, that I don't think it would be a pretty good thing
for Toine to develop a nice shot in the post. I think he's going to
be a player who adjusts his game based on his defender. If he's got a
big (i.e. the same size as Walker himself) guy one him, he drives
(probably the best option). When that big guy drops off him by 6
feet, he takes the jumper. And then, when the other team tries to put
a significantly smaller player on him, he goes down to the post.
