Re: McDonough: C's To Walker: Play Well, Create Value, Then We'll Trade You

Well, I only got to see him play against Brian Grant and Rasheed Wallace in
one of the tapes. He was overmatched in the sense that Dunleavy outcoached
Denver's coach. Dunleavy must have instructed Brian and Sheed to high post
Fortson and try to drive to the basket fronting the rim and that left
Mcdyess alone underneath without help on the boards. To which Sabonis and
Cato lorded it over there against Mcdyess. Physically, Fortson matched his
counterparts thru boxing out and bodying up underneath. I think he still
scored a double double (pts/rbs). He is not a smooth post up player...as
he gets his scoring thru put backs and hustle plays underneath. If you
guys are wondering if he could be the main low post offense then all of you
are wrong. He's got the potential but not a consistent scorer inside if
there are tall centers and bruising power forwards to play against. What I
can say is he'll score underneath every now and then but not the type that
teams would worry about to double team him. And lastly, one thing is for
sure...he is the healthy Popeye Jones we were looking for to give us
terrific rebounding strength and consistency at that area.

Everybody should be happy with this acquisition as he filled up a definite
need... Rebounding and inside the paint toughness...and much better FT
shooting than AW!!!
